Cagliari isn’t only the conference venue: it’s a city-as-palimpsest that rewards anyone willing to wander through it. With the new Explore Cagliari section of the AIUCD 2026 Companion you can turn every gap between two talks into a mini-exploration — even if it’s your first time setting foot in Sardinia.
52 hand-picked places, all within walking distance from the conference venue: museums, Roman remains, panoramic balconies, gardens, seafronts, and public-transport hubs for slightly longer escapes. All on an interactive map, with a filter that respects your schedule.

“I’ve got half an hour between two talks. How far can I get?”
That’s the quintessential conference question — and the section takes it seriously. Set your available time (30, 45, 60, 90 minutes, two hours) and the travel mode — walking or by car — and the list narrows down to places you can actually reach, enjoy, and return from in time for the next session. The app factors in the round-trip plus ten minutes on site: if it doesn’t fit, it won’t show.

Six thematic filters to shape your route
Every place is tagged by type, so you can focus straight away on what interests you most:
- Cultural — museums, galleries, historic libraries, the Roman Amphitheatre, the Crypt of Santa Restituta.
- Belvedere / aperitif — Bastion of Saint Remy, the terraces of Castello, panoramic views over the Gulf of Angels.
- Walk / seafront — Via Roma, Marina, Poetto beach.
- Naturalistic — the Botanical Garden, Monte Urpinu Park, the trails of the Devil’s Saddle.
- Public transport — stops and hubs that let you push a little further during a longer break.
- Other — everything that doesn’t fit elsewhere but is still worth a detour.
A card for every place, one click away from Google Maps
Tapping a marker on the map — or a card in the list — opens a place card with a photo, a short description, the distance from the venue, and real walking and driving times computed on the actual road network. A Directions with Google Maps button hands you over to your phone’s navigation when you’re ready to go.

Why it matters — especially if you’re travelling in
Cagliari rewards visitors who slow down, but the conference will fill all three days. Explore Cagliari is built precisely for that gap: it helps you decide in thirty seconds whether your long break is enough for an espresso at the Bastion, a flash visit to the Roman Amphitheatre, or a stroll all the way to Poetto.
Open the Explore Cagliari section in the Conference Companion, pick how much time you have, and let it guide you. See you in Cagliari, 3—5 June 2026.
